Industrialist, Ratan Tata, Chairman of Tata Sons, Justice K.T. Thomas, former Supreme Court judge, and Kariya Munda, former deputy Lok Sabha speaker have been nominated as trustees of PM-CARES Fund.
PM CARES FUND was created during the Covid-19 to work with a larger perspective of responding to emergency and distress situations, not only through relief assistance, but also taking mitigation measures and capacity building
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the PM CARES Fund on 20.09.2022. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman attended this meeting too.
PM-CARES nominees
According to the PMO statement, this meeting decided to appoint three persons as advisers to the PM-CARES FUND, which are:
- Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons(84 years old),
- Justice K.T. Thomas, Former Judge, Supreme Court(85 years old),
- Kariya Munda, Former Deputy Speaker(86 years old),
PM-CARES Advisory Board
The Trust further decided to nominate eminent persons for the constitution of the Advisory Board to PM-CARES Fund, which are:
- Rajiv Mehrishi, Former Comptroller and Auditor General of India
- Sudha Murthy, Former Chairperson, Infosys Foundation
- Anand Shah, Co-founder of Teach for India and Former CEO of Indicorps and Piramal Foundation.
It was discussed that PM CARES has a larger vision of effectively responding to emergency and distress situations, not only through relief assistance but also by taking mitigation measures and capacity building.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Trustees for becoming an integral part of the PM CARES Fund and added that the participation of new Trustees and Advisors will provide wider perspectives on the functioning of the PM CARES Fund.
Their vast experience of public life would impart further vigour in making the fund more responsive to various public needs.
